Post-COVID-19 Society: A Renaissance of Biosecurity Politics and Governance

In December 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic began and became a global crisis that disrupted public health systems, economies, and social structures across the worldwide. The phenomenon revealed the critical area of weaknesses in global health governance, exposing gaps in healthcare infrastructure, the state of preparedness, and the disparate impacts on both developed and developing nations. The pandemic actually highlighted the importance of global interconnectedness and the need for collaborative efforts to manage health emergencies both at local and international level. The incidence of the pandemic also emphasized the growing significance of biosecurity governance which encompasses the prevention, detection, and response to biological threats, as a key component of both national and international security. This study examines the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on social structures and the reawaking of biosecurity politics that focused on shifts in governance priorities and the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic hullabaloo. The study also explores how the pandemic reshaped biosecurity policies at both national and international levels, as well as the responses drafted towards the emerging health threats. The study noted the challenges encountered in maintaining biosecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic which include inadequacies of healthcare services in some regions, systemic inefficiencies, and the need for global cooperation. Through the use of document analysis, this study explore the resurgence of biosecurity politics and governance arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. The study also offer an insights into how societies can better prepare for future biosecurity challenges. The findings highlighted the importance of reinforcement of healthcare systems, improve the pandemic preparedness, and enhancing international collaboration of biosecurity governace.
