Strategic Procurement and Performance of The National Water and Electricity Company (Nawec) In the Gambia

The paper examine the effect of strategic procurement on performance of National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) in The Gambia. Specifically the paper sought to: determine the effect of procurement processes automation on performance of (NAWEC) in the Gambia and establish the effect of contract management on performance of (NAWEC) in the Gambia. A correctional survey research design utilized and used a simple random sampling technique to select respondents for the study which comprise of officials that are in shaping procurement policies and implementation of strategic procurement at (NAWEC) in The Gambia and employed Taro Yamane’s (1967) formula. To calculate the sample size of 371 officials, the study arrived at a sample size of 192 officials who were accessed through random sampling technique. The paper found out that procurement process automation and contract management has a significant effect on performance of (NAWEC). The paper concludes that contract management significantly enhance performance and procurement processes automation do not demonstrate a meaningful impact. The paper recommended amongst others that organizations should prioritize contract management by ensuring clear contract terms, effective monitoring, and compliance enforcement. Investing in contract negotiation skills and digital contract management tools can further improve efficiency and accountability.
